Taylor walked along the hallway, his slow rolling gate gliding him past the never ending rows of lockers as his head slowly bobbed to a old Stevie Ray Vaughan song named Texas Flood, his eyes wandering from side to side, keeping him from running into anyone else in the half-full halls...
He somewhat noted the looks and glances he got from the other students, and it didn't surprize him, he was the new guy, and being slightly taller than most of his classmates made him stick out even more... and looking like a younger John Mayer only made it worse...
It was times like this that he really felt home sick...

Laren let out a sigh as she flipped threw a stack of papers in her hands. She was a freshman and was new here as were most of the freshman. Still she was new to the are too. Her eyes looked up to the path occasionally to check for traffic. But she needed to find a paper for her English Class. It was next and it had to be in the one pile of papers that were disorganized in her bag.
So she continued down the hallway. It was alot less crowded then the day before. She had on a purple shirt and a green skirt today. It was her favorite outfit. To bad she was to busy walking through the crowd to notice Taylor heading down the hall.

Taylor caught sight of her out of the corner of his eye just a half second too late as he tried to side step, then swing wide all at the same time... It just made him slow down before he about knocked the poor girl over with his loose hanging backpack...
"Ahh damm! I'ma sooo sorry! Are' you kay'?" Taylor's soft East Texas drawl flowed out in a torrent, his puppy-dog brown eyes big and surprised as he held out his hand in apology...

Laren looked up to see Taylor. The next moment the papers in her hand scattered in the middle of the intersection. She sat up and put a hand to her head. "ow.." She muttered to herself. But a hand was extend to her as well as a southern accent. "No, It's fine. I wasn't looking where I was heading. I am so sorry." She said with a frown as she began collecting papers.
Then she noticed her english work. "Heh, there it is..." She laughed as she picked it up and folded it, tucking it neatly into her pocket. "I'm fine though. Thanks, most people would continue walking." She added as she stood up and put the disorganized papers into a loose folder.

Taylor smirked kindly and nodded as he paused his i-pod, "Thanks... But it was really my fault, I wasn't fast enough..." He kept his hand extended, but it was now in greeting, "Yeah, I guess I'm not most people... I'm Taylor..." He smiled kindly at the girl, and hoped that she'd stay friendly, it had been his experience that people would blow off stuff at first then act mean when they though you where "too kind"...

Laren smiled shortly. "Well, It's ok." She said. But as she was about to go on her way he 'greeted' her. "Nice to meet you Taylor." She said extending her own hand and shaking slightly. "I'm Laren..." She replied, still with an akward smile. She was shy and didn't like talking, but she was able to force herself if needed be. And it seemed this was one of the situations.

Taylor nodded and let go when she lessened her grip, "Nice to meet you Laren... do you know where the English classroom is? I just moved here two weeks ago, and I started school here this week... I'm as lost as a blind dog with a cold..." Taylor mentally slapped himself for using a local saying from back home... He had figured that no one else at the school wouldn't know what he was talking about half the time, but he didn't need to make it worse... 'At least I'm not chewing tobaco...' He though scarcasictly, as he suddenly felt very shy and his cheeks started to warm... her hand had been soft and warm...

Laren smiled slightly again but couldn't help but chuckle at his 'blind dog' joke. "I see, texas, correct?" She asked. "But anyway, i am heading to english, so I'll walk you down there." She mentioned as she turned to lead him toward the classes. She had not noticed his blushing.
He seemed kind but she was not very secure with people. She had not real family and her nose was always in a book. At least she had not been reading when she fell, or it would have spread around the school like a fire on dry grass.

Taylor arched his eyebrows when she pegged him as a Texan, "Yeah, actualy... I am... Eastwood Texas..." He fell in step with Laren as she headded to English Class, stuffing his i-pod into his back pocket, he looked over at her and nodded again, "Thanks a lot... I owe ya' one." He smiled lightly as they rounded a corrner and fell into a line of students making their way into a large class room... "I'll buy your lunch in the lunch room if ya' want..." He said as his cheeks kept up there light burn...

Laren smiled. "I recognised the accent. An old friend of mine was texan so I get some of the accent." She couldn't help but blush slightly in embarresment. Then they entered English. It was her favorite subject, but she hated writing. I was her only weak point in school. But her mind traveled back to Taylor.
She shook her head. "No thanks. But I don't mind sitting with you, since I don't have anyone to sit with." Her eyes glanced back to catch part of the blush. She couldn't help but smile back akwardly again. She sat in a middle seat.

'Aww crap... she saw my cheeks...' Taylor cursed his awkwardness with girls... it had plagued him since grade school and he loathed himself for it, but what to do? He was just shy enough to be awkward, unless he had his guitar with him... "Okay, thanks..." he looked away as if looking for a seat, but the only one was right next to Laren... 'SHUT UP YOU FOOL!' he mentaly shouted at himself, his cheeks deepening in color...

Laren noticed that Taylor was going to end up sitting next to her. It didn't bother her it was only her shy speaking. She was always to afraid to talk so she lived in the library reading and sorting through the books. If anyone talked to her she would just hush them and go about her business. But she couldn't really hide from him.
He seemed nice and all. But if she got close to someone they would end up moving or something. So she stopped befriending people all together.

The thing about moving halfway across the country is that everything you know and love is no more: friends? gone. Favorite hang out? no more. relationships? wrecked...
Taylor had never been wildly popular, but everyone back home had liked him and had given him a fair amount of respect...
Here? He had to start from stratch... But what the Hell was "stratch" anyway?
Taylor blushed and fretted his way through english and thought that the sound of the lunch bell was the best sound he had heard all day...
"Um, where is the lunch room?" Taylor asked, his cheeks now hurt from the deep blush on them...

Laren smiled back. It had been a long class. She had trudged through a long and boring lecture on writing and how important it was in life. She shook her head as she stood up and collected her bag and folder. Taylor asked where the lunch room was. "You'll get the schedule down. I just don't really know for sure." She said with a sigh.
It was bad not knowing the school. But it was worse when you didn't remember how to get to food. "Just follow the skunk smell. It'll lead you to food."

"Skunk smell? Oh boy..." Taylor said as he stuffed his blank note book into his pack and slung it onto his shoulders...
"We can leave campus for lunch, I know a great place not far from here... Well I have to say it's great, I work there... But are you game?"
'What the hell are you doing?!?!' Taylor asked himself as he relized what he had just said...
